How to curly Hair without Heat
Go from Straight to Wavy or Curly Hair: If you have straight hair and want to create some beach-ready waves, here are some ways you can achieve the look without using heat.
Step 1
Wash your hair with a shampoo & conditioner to protect your locks from UVA/UVB rays. This will ensure that your hair won’t get too damaged in the sun.
Step 2
When you come out of the shower, squeeze your hair until it isn't dripping anymore. Wrap your hair in a towel and let it dry for 15-20 minutes.
If you have straight hair, use a wide-tooth comb and start gently untangling from the bottom toward the top of your head. Use a detangling spray on strands that need extra love.
If you have wavy hair, you can use either a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to gently untangle your waves. Just make sure not to over-comb so that your waves still keep their shape.
If you have curly hair, finger comb your curls by starting gently from the bottom of your strands toward your scalp. You can individually curl the strands with your fingers to get an extra bouncy curl. Use a leave-in conditioner to keep it extra-moisturized. If you have curly hair, use a detangling spray and gently comb through the ends of your hair. Use a leave-in conditioner for extra-moisturized curls.
Step 3
Over the next hour or two, let your afro kinky human hair air dry. Try not to tie it back or use any hair ties at all--they create extra dents in the hair.

Braids: Right out of the shower, towel dry your hair and detangle it with a wide-tooth comb. Use just a tiny bit of leave-in conditioner from the ends to the mid-shafts of your hair. Separate your hair into three sections, and braid every section from the mid-shaft to the ends of the hair.
Mousse: Another way to make waves in straight hair is to use a palm-sized amount of mousse and gently massage it into the ends and mid shaft of your hair. You can use the rest of the mousse on the top of your hair. When you’re ready to make it wavy, just flip your hair upside down and scrunch it with your hands going upward toward your scalp. Keep in mind that these waves will be created once your hair is all dry.
Twists: To get your naturally straight hair to curl, wait until your hair is 60% dry, then add a palm-sized amount of mousse to your hair. While it’s still damp, start from the top of your head and twist each strand until it starts curling up toward your scalp. Once it’s pressed against the scalp, pin the strand. Repeat steps until all of your hair is twirled and pinned. Let your hair air dry for about an hour and take out the pins.
